Welcome to the SCWDC Ski Program

The SCWDC "Ski & Ride" Program offers a broad variety of ski trips across the entire US and Canada as well as Europe. Trips to other exotic ski destinations may also be offered based on interest. The goal is to offer trips that satisfy the broad range of interest and skills of our membership. As such, we plan and divide our trips into two categories: Western & International trips, and Eastern trips.

Western & International Ski Trips are offered to the western U.S. and Canada as well as Europe. These look for ski locations offering high altitudes, powdery snow and long runs. They are multi-day events that require scheduled air as well as ground transportation. The domestic and Canadian trips generally include lift passes but no meals, while the European ones include meals but no lift passes. Because of their popularity and scheduling demands, reservations are usually required long in advance.

The Eastern Trips Program offers locations as far west as West Virginia and far north into Maine and Eastern Canada. These trips are usually of shorter duration, and may involve air, bus or "provide your own" (PYOT) transportation. For skiers who want to enhance their skills, this Program offers several weekend SPE (Ski/Snowboard Performance Enhancement) trips. The instructors for these are the Ski Club's professionally accredited ski/snowboard instructors who will help polish participants' skills.

Both programs offer cross-country skiing opportunities.

Reciprocity with the Blue Ridge Ski Council (BRSC) Member Clubs. The BRSC consists of 22 clubs, of which SCWDC is a member. Under its reciprocity agreement, SCWDC members can participate in other BRSC Clubs' ski trips at those clubs' member price rather than guest price. Conversely, other BRSC club members can participate in SCWDC ski trips at SCWDC member prices.  If our trips don't fit your schedule, look at the other clubs' BRSC-sanctioned trips at the Blue Ridge Ski Council web site. We offer this information to you in the spirit of good skiing but encourage you to try one of our trips because of their high-quality and our great members.

    Western/International Skiing

A Word from the Western/International Ski Trips Coordinator
    Sue Miller

    Western/International Trips
Are organized to most major ski resorts in the "western" region of the US and Canada, plus the best-known resorts in Europe, with occasional trips to South America and other ski locations in the world.

Western states destinations include ski resorts in Colorado, California, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Alaska. International Canadian trips include British Columbia and Alberta. European destinations include countries such as Switzerland, France, Italy and Austria.

What is Included in Western/International Ski Trips?
Most trips include round trip air, ground transportation from the airport to the resorts, lift tickets, and social events. European trips do not include lift tickets; however, breakfast and dinners are usually included as well as trip insurance. This gives participants the opportunity to avoid the cost of a lift ticket when they want to take a day or more for cultural and/or sightseeing side excursions.

    Reservations
Due to these trips' popularity and the need to fulfill air and lodging commitments, reservations are required long in advance. "Flyers" associated with each trip may be downloaded from this site and submitted with the required deposit to the trip's leader. Click on the trip's title below to open its information page and then the Flyer.

Participants will be confirmed in order of receipt of checks or credit card deposits and should receive confirmation within 7 days. Please understand that our leaders are volunteers and that trip business is handled when personal time is available. Trip size varies from 24-50 participants, and each participant will receive individual responses when time permits.
