What is the SCWDC Tennis Program?
We offer the largest non-commercial tennis program in the Metro area - i.e., we rent indoor tennis time at Virginia and Maryland clubs every Saturday night from September through April, and also conduct weekend spring/summer events for our members at camps and resorts outside the area. You don't have to be a member to attend our parties.

We're not a league, so each party's competitive level depends on who decides to sign up from our population of about 800 tennis-playing members of the SCWDC plus non-members. We try to fairly rank order all players and put them in 16-person, similar-ability groups (8 men, 8 women) for 2 rounds of mixed doubles and one round of same sex doubles between 7-11pm, using alternating 40-minute sessions. Between 64-80 players usually attend, evenly divided between men and women, ages range from 30's to 60's. When not playing, you have the chance to partake in light buffet food and drinks, and have time to socialize with other players. If you are interested in a fun, tennis-based social group, the SCWDC tennis program may be for you. Try out at least one party, see for yourself. It's only $20 to $22 for a non-member attending a party, with 2 hours of tennis, food and drink!

You can visit any party with no reservation for a $10 party fee and partake of the food and drink, staying as long as you like and even playing at 11pm on an open court. You can also come dressed for tennis between 6:30-7pm and fill in for a no-show, if that happens.

Everyone who has a reservation may be asked to bring a homemade food dish or a purchased beverage to the party, and get reimbursed for their expense. We are a completely volunteer organization, and depend on participants to help cater the party. Leaders call those with reservations and ask for specific food/dishes/drinks. If you like to prepare a favorite food dish, then mention that to the leader. No one can buy an expensive store-prepared dish for more than $20 (like getting 5lbs of salad from the Giant salad bar), without the tennis leader's permission.

PS - If you email a leader about attending a party, include your phone number. The leader must call you and tell you that you are "in the party" - for you to be in the party. Sometimes, the party is already full when you send your email, or the leader has to wait for a set number of new signups before he can accept you.
